Magic Wood is one of Europe's most iconic bouldering destinations, offering a dense concentration of world-class problems on fine-grained granite. Nestled at 1300 meters in a narrow alpine valley, the area provides ideal summer conditions, with cool temperatures and excellent friction. The climbing here is predominantly steep and powerful, featuring crimps, slopers, and dynamic moves on overhanging walls. With over 1,000 problems ranging from beginner-friendly to cutting-edge test pieces like In Search of Time Lost (8C), Magic Wood caters to climbers of all levels. The compact layout means short approaches, though the steep forested terrain can make carrying crash pads challenging.

The best season to visit is from June to September, when the high-altitude climate keeps conditions prime despite summer heat elsewhere. Spring and autumn can also be good, but rain and snow are more common. A river runs through the area, adding to the magical atmosphere, but also increasing humidity at times. Staying at Bodhi Camping, the dedicated climbers’ campsite, is the best option for easy access. Given its popularity, responsible climbing practices are essential—stick to paths, brush holds, and respect conservation rules to help preserve this legendary bouldering paradise.
