Maltatal, often called "The valley of the falling waters," is one of Austria's premier bouldering destinations, set in the stunning Carinthian Alps. The area is renowned for its high-quality granite, a rarity in Austria, offering powerful climbing on crimps, slopers, and jugs. The problems are generally steep, with overhangs and compression moves dominating the style. With over 300 boulders spread across various sectors, Maltatal is best suited for experienced climbers, as the majority of problems range from 6A to 8C+.

The best season for bouldering in Maltatal is from March to November, though conditions vary by altitude. Spring and autumn offer the best friction, while summer can be pleasant at higher sectors despite occasional rain. The alpine setting means weather can change rapidly, but the rock dries quickly. Access is straightforward, with parking close to most sectors, but the Malta High Alpine Road is a toll road, open seasonally.
